York-based Miller Food Service joins Fairway

York-based Miller Food Service has joined Fairway Foodservice as part of its plans to double turnover, which is currently £8.7 million.

The family-run company was established in 2003 and has a staff of 59.

Managing director Garreth Wilson said he was looking forward to taking the operator to ‘the next level’.

He commented: “Being a Fairway Foodservice member will play an important role in our growth. Previously, we were stand-alone and had to negotiate with each supplier to get the best cost.

“Having Fairway take care of that element is vital. It takes the pressure off Miller Foodservice and allows us to concentrate on other aspects of the business, such as winning new contracts and improving efficiency.”

He added that being a group member gave his company access to like-minded operators.

Although Miller Foodservice was bought by Eden Farm two years ago (that company is itself owned by Kitwave), three family members have senior roles in the business.

The company is in the process of merging its operations to one site and it has acquired two multi-temp vehicles, expanding the fleet to 17.

The wholesaler becomes Fairway’s 19th member. Chief executive of the group, which last year had combined turnover of £650.5 million, is Chris Binge.
