Trevors Foodservice has officially opened its new state-of-the-art premises in the former home of the Fylde Ice Co in Fleetwood’s historic dock area.

With £5 million invested in the relocation and refurbishment, the company’s Hitchen family was joined by team members, customers, stakeholders and local dignitaries for a ribbon cutting ceremony on 13 June.

The new 58,000 sq ft headquarters is nearly twice the size of the company’s previous warehouse. This includes ambient, chilled and frozen storage and new offices.

A high-spec freezer has been installed, providing nearly 10 times more capacity than previously, alongside a new chiller, ambient storage and an investment property. Six extra goods in and good out bays have also been added and the site has an additional 1.4 acres of yard space.

After reducing its carbon footprint by just under 20% (a reduction of over 160,000 Kg Co2) in 2023, energy efficient lighting, improved cooling for refrigeration, optimised delivery routing and 796 solar panels are being installed at the new site to help Trevors work in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable way.

A member of the Country Range Group, Trevors Foodservice supplies the public and hospitality catering sectors across the North West of England. It celebrated its 60th anniversary last November.

The new Trevors Foodservice HQ will provide the foundations, space, facilities and resources for the independent foodservice supplier’s ambitious plans for future growth and job creation in the region.

In addition to the local jobs created in the past few months renovating the new premises, Trevors has welcomed 10 new starters to the business this year including drivers, pickers, buyers and business development personnel. The majority of the new employees have come from the Fleetwood area. With the new resources, capacity and ambitious plans for growth, the company is hoping to create another 25 jobs in the next five years.

An innovation hub, development kitchen and event space will be completed by early 2025, enabling Trevors to further improve its support, marketing, customer service and community outreach.

With additional temperature controlled and ambient warehouse space, workshops and offices available to rent, Trevors wants to make the area a hub for local food businesses, entrepreneurs and SMEs in Lancashire.

Gary Hitchen, managing director of Trevors Foodservice, said: “It’s great to finally be in and have everything up and running. It’s an iconic and historic building in the town of Fleetwood, especially when it comes to food, so it’s a privilege to have been able to bring the building back to life. Our business turned 60 last year and we’re confident the new HQ will underpin our success for another 60 years and more, while helping to create jobs and regenerate this amazing area in the process.”

Matthew Hitchen, purchasing director, added: “It’s been an incredible journey and a real team effort so we’re all ecstatic to officially open our new HQ and celebrate with our team, friends and family. I’m really excited about the future and I honestly couldn’t be prouder of the whole team for all their devotion and hard work. Alongside the amazing people we’re blessed to have, I’m confident our new home provides us with concrete foundations for our ambitious growth plans.”
