Sysco GB launches Menopause at Work Guide
Sysco GB has introduced a new Menopause at Work Guide, designed to raise awareness and improve understanding of the menopause and its impact on colleagues across the organisation.
Launched on World Menopause Day (18 October), the guide highlights the potential challenges faced by those going through perimenopause and menopause, as well as offering specific support for those who are transitioning through this life stage.
In particular, it aims to empower colleagues to speak openly and feel confident to talk to those around them, including their line manager about their symptoms or support they may need, while at the same time carrying out their daily role in a safe working environment.
The Menopause at Work Guide is the latest addition to the company’s Mission Menopause programme and is a key focus of IMPACT, Sysco GB’s female-focused associate resource group which was launched in 2019 with the aim of creating safe spaces for women to share their stories, support each other, inspire them to reach their goals and be advocates in driving balance for better. The guide was jointly prepared by IMPACT and the organisation’s HR team.
Sophie Swan, Sysco GB business alignment director and IMPACT co-chair, said: “At Sysco, DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) is an integral part of the organisation’s purpose of ‘Connecting the world to share food and care for one another’. We believe that it is vital for us to create an environment that is inclusive and ensures that colleagues feel they can bring their whole selves to work, and know that they will be supported.
“Our Mission Menopause activities are designed not only to support colleagues as they approach and experience this life stage, but also to raise awareness of it business-wide, ensuring everyone has a better understanding and can support anyone being impacted by it.”
Mission Menopause is now in its second year, providing practical advice with easily accessible support materials on a menopause hub, including factsheets, videos and useful links. In addition, the organisation regularly holds wellness sessions where women can share experiences and discuss the key topics or issues that are important to them.
