S&W invests more than £15 million in 20-acre Newry site

S&W Wholesale is investing more than £15 million in a 20-acre site that will feature a new multi-purpose distribution hub, head office, vehicle management area and recycling area. The premises are expected to open in 2024.

The location in Chancellors Road, Newry, just off the A1 dual carriageway that links Newry to Dublin, will position S&W “in the best location to service retail and wholesale customers throughout the island of Ireland with greater ease”.

A new 180,000 sq ft state-of-the-art warehouse will store ambient, chilled, fresh and frozen products under one roof and will replace S&W’s current 100,000 sq ft warehouse in Carnbane, where the company has been based since 2010.

Michael Skelton, MD of S&W Wholesale, said: “Over the past number of years we have experienced sustained growth. This investment in the new multi-purpose site is aimed at facilitating this growth further and providing our employees with a better working environment, as well as providing a more efficient way of working across the entire business.”

The site will become more eco-friendly with the introduction of solar panels, electric car charging points and methods of reducing waste.

Skelton added: “We have plans to build on our 250+ workforce and work alongside local businesses and organisations in making a positive change in the local area and beyond.”
