Costco’s Sue Knowles wins Barclaycard Everywoman ‘Leader of Change’ award

Sue Knowles (pictured), marketing/HR director of Costco UK and chair of the LEAD Network UK Chapter, has won a prestigious Barclaycard Everywoman in Retail Award.

This accolade recognised Knowles as a ‘Leader of Change’ for her expertise in identifying and developing talent and bringing out the best in people. She has created a ‘Journeys’ network at Costco, promoting development through mentoring. Additionally, her work within the ‘Costco University’ training programme has helped develop over 3,000 employees.

Knowles received the award earlier this month in London in the presence of hundreds of business leaders from the UK’s leading retail brands. The judging panel, which included senior women from Stella McCartney, Burberry, Tesco, Specsavers and Amazon, selected nine winners who “are redefining retail to be more than the simple exchange of goods and services”. The awards are designed to increase awareness of the diverse range of opportunities for women in retail by shining a spotlight on role models and inspiring more women to consider a career in retail.

Commenting on her award, Knowles said: “I am honoured to be recognised as a Leader of Change and want to thank all the people and organisations who’ve supported me in my career. I also want to recognise the other women who were shortlisted for the awards. Together, we are all role models for bringing out the best in people and are working to change and improve the retail industry for women.”

This latest accolade for Knowles follows her recognition by Costco in July, when she was presented with the ‘Inspiring Woman’ award at its annual conference in Seattle.
