Ian Taylor (pictured), formerly head of retail at Spar UK, which has about 2,400 stores, has been promoted to the new role of retail director, which the group described as ‘a more senior position’.

He has been with the Harrow-based organisation since 2012, having joined from Co-operative Farms (part of the Co-op) where he was head of commercial operations, sales & marketing.

Managing director Debbie Robinson said that Taylor will remain in charge of developing the group’s national accounts business and formats offer, as well as working on ‘Spar’s More Together’ initiative.

She added: “Thanks to Ian’s dedication and talent, the face of our stores has changed significantly. Our retailers have won a huge number of awards around the UK, having adopted his recommendations in store format development.

“His expertise has helped shape our strategy for the future.”
