Pilgrim Foodservice officially opens Colchester satellite depot

Pilgrim Foodservice, of Boston, Lincolnshire, has officially opened its new Colchester satellite depot.

The £3 million project included demolition of two existing structures, allowing for the construction of a new purpose-built warehouse incorporating seven loading docks.

The new depot, a cornerstone of Pilgrim Foodservice’s ambitious investment plan, has already created 14 new jobs. The strategic location of the depot enables the family-run Caterforce member to expand its operations, ensuring more efficient deliveries of its products and services across Essex, Suffolk and London.

The official opening was marked by the Mayor of Colchester, councillor Lesley Scott-Boutell.

Charles Bateman, managing director of Pilgrim Foodservice, commented: “The positive customer feedback we’ve received since the depot started operating reflects the dedication of our Colchester team, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony felt like the perfect way to celebrate this exciting new chapter.”

Founded in 1979 by Peter Bateman, Pilgrim Foodservice is now under the leadership of Peter’s son, Charles.

With more than 300 team members, the company offers a diverse range of products, from fresh produce and pantry essentials to premium meats from the company’s in-house butchery, CJ Butchers. The company services independent restaurants, hotels, and cafés in East Anglia, the East and West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and London.
