New YES! bars from Nestlé tap into trend towards pea protein

Nestlé UK & Ireland has launched two new YES! snack bars, with each bar containing 10 grams of plant protein, sourced from a combination of peas and nuts.

Recent research by Nestlé showed that most people buying protein bars are now looking for more innovative protein sources, and the new YES! bars tap into an emerging trend towards pea protein.

The two new bars are Almond, Peanut & Double Dark Chocolate and Cashew, Blueberry & Dark Chocolate. Nuts are the number one ingredient, and the dark chocolate is made with sustainable cocoa certified by the Rainforest Alliance. Each bar has an rsp of £1.59.

The launch of YES! protein bars will be supported with social media, sampling activity and shopper activation.

As with the existing YES! range, the bars are wrapped in recyclable paper. The paper is from sustainable sources, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

Rosamunde Hobson, brand manager for YES!, says: “We know that people are increasingly looking for options that are good both for them and for the environment. YES! plant protein bars provide a source of plant protein to deliver a great wholesome product on the go and are wrapped in paper packaging that is easy to recycle.”

For convenience retailers looking to capitalise on YES! plant protein bar sales, Nestlé advises that they site the bars within their healthy snacking fixture – next to lifestyle protein/enhanced well-being products (these typically have between 8g-12g of protein), rather than next to functional protein/enhanced performance products (these typically contain up to 20g protein).
