Oriental food specialist Wing Yip suffered a decline in pre-tax profit from £4.8 million to £3.5 million on sales up from £101 million to £109.8 million in the year to 30 September.

In a statement with the results, the company, which has sites in Birmingham, Manchester, Croydon and Cricklewood, north London, blamed “challenging conditions” affecting spending patterns and customers’ disposable income.

“Exchange rate fluctuations and the state of agriculture worldwide also impacted upon our results,” said the spokesperson.

”With these risks and uncertainties in mind, we are aware that any plans for the future development of the business may be subject to unforeseen future events outside our control.”
