Mevalco adds wild porcini mushrooms to its range
Mevalco has introduced wild porcini mushrooms, harvested in Soria, within the dramatic landscapes of northern Spain’s Basque region.
Sitting over 1,000 metres above sea level, Soria’s climate creates the perfect conditions for these prized mushrooms to flourish.
Each cep is hand-foraged by licensed locals – teachers, farmers and shopkeepers. They gather the mushrooms with care and respect, earning a fair return for their craft while preserving the delicate ecosystems that sustain the mushrooms.
To bring these mushrooms to the UK, Mevalco has partnered with Arotz Foods, Spain’s market leader in gourmet wild ingredients. With over 50 years of expertise, Arotz is renowned for its commitment to quality, provenance and sustainability.
Picked and frozen in seconds to lock in freshness, Mevalco’s Wild Porcini retain their texture, shape and deep umami flavour. They are available in formats of whole, sliced and chunks, and are ideal for risottos, sauces and seasonal menus.
David Menendez, managing director of Mevalco, says: “We’re incredibly proud to introduce these outstanding porcini to UK wholesalers. Finding mushrooms that truly hold their structure, flavour and fragrance is a challenge – these are the real deal. Each one carries the spirit of the Spanish forest.”
