Mark Aylwin joins Matthew Clark as managing director

Mark Aylwin, former managing director of Booker Direct and ex-chief executive of Blueheath, the delivered wholesale business which was absorbed by Booker in 2007, has become managing director of drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark.

It was only a few months ago (Cash & Carry Management: August 2015) that Aylwin switched from his role at Booker Direct to be appointed managing director of Musgrave GB, shortly after it became part of Booker.

He had already worked for the Budgens/Londis business as supply chain director in 2005/6, having previously occupied a similar position with the former Safeway retail chain.

Aylwin takes over within months of Matthew Clark becoming part of Conviviality, owner of the Wine Rack and Bargain Booze retail stores, in a £200 million reverse takeover.

The post of Booker Direct managing director is not being refilled.

Steve Thomson, who had been chief executive of Matthew Clark for 10 years, has left the company while former commercial director Ian Smith becomes deputy managing director.
