Major project at Wing Yip Birmingham site

Oriental food specialist Wing Yip has begun work to create a 1.67 acre multi-retail area at its Nechells, Birmingham, site.

While the main store will be unchanged, the restaurant is being dismantled to make way for 11 stores which could be let to independent restaurateurs, bakers, healthcare stockists and legal practitioners.

The changes, due to be completed by the early summer, will include a landscaped seating area.

Director Brian Yip said: “Our renovations will create additional space and will allow us to grow our commercial offering as we enter our 50th year.”

Wing Yip is also undertaking improvements at its Croydon premises – spread over two years – to double the area of its bulk goods warehouse and create rooftop parking.

Plans are also in hand to modify the Manchester store.

The company’s other site, in Cricklewood, north London, has also undergone improvements over the past few years.

Wing Yip is also the owner of a 40,700 sq ft retail park in Newport Road, Cardiff.

Total company sales last year were £120 million and pre-tax profit was £4 million.
