Hugo Mahoney to leave Brakes and join Samworth Brothers

Hugo Mahoney, currently chief executive officer of Brakes, is leaving the wholesaler to become group chief executive designate of British food manufacturer Samworth Brothers. He is likely to join the business in April 2022.

The appointment of Mahoney (pictured) follows the decision by Samworth Brothers’ current group chief executive Flor Healy to retire this year.

Samworth Brothers’ group holdings board chairman Mark Samworth said: “I am delighted that Hugo has agreed to join our business. He has an impressive track record of leading and growing businesses in a variety of sectors.  In his current role at Brakes, he has successfully led the organisation through a significant period of transformation and development.

“In our discussions with Hugo, we were impressed by his commitment to move businesses forward through his engagement with colleagues and customers, his passion for business to be a positive contributor to society, and the breadth of his thinking about the future. As a family business, it is always important to us that our leadership is aligned to our values, and I am confident that Hugo will be a strong champion of our unique culture and ethos.”

Mahoney added: “Samworth Brothers has an impressive leadership team and business, and I am looking forward to contributing to its future success. We have a shared passion in quality food and innovation, and there are many future opportunities for the business.”

An announcement about Mahoney’s replacement at Brakes has yet to be announced.
