Charles Saunders Food Service moves to new site

Charles Saunders Food Service has moved to a new cold storage warehouse facility in Yate, about 12 miles from its former Bristol location.

The company operates from a £3 million 45,755 sq ft building containing all stock and services under one roof.

The Fairway Foodservice member has also launched a trade counter, providing businesses and individuals with immediate access to more than 5,000 frozen, chilled, grocery and non-food lines.

It has been trading in the south-west for more than 50 years and was previously spread across two sites in Bristol.

The new warehouse has a fingerprint recognition security system, renovated reception area with a retail freezer and a department to store fresh seafood.

Other facilities include a rest area and kitchen, shower facilities and offices for the customer service, telesales and accounts teams.

The wholesaler has also invested in new forklift trucks with an increased maximum reach and has ensured that the layout increases productivity in the warehouse via wider loading bays.

Owner and managing director Darren Gaulton (pictured) said: “We have wanted to merge operations on to one site for a long time in order to increase efficiency and improve communications between departments.

“Our new headquarters have already gone down really well with employees. Opening a trade counter provides the region’s food industry professionals and enthusiasts with easy and quick access to quality food at cost-effective prices.”

The company, which had a turnover last year of £20.5 millio, has 126 staff and a fleet of 35 vehicles.
