Bidfood confirms opening of Durham depot in spring/summer 2026

Bidfood will be opening its new state-of-the-art depot in Durham – its 28th in the UK – in the spring or early summer next year.

With low-carbon design features, 50 cycle bays and EV charging points, the new site on Drum Industrial Estate in Chester Le Street is a step closer towards Bidfood’s mission to be a positive force for change.

Once complete, the Durham premises will strengthen the wholesaler’s network in the North East and replace its existing depot in Gateshead, which has reached the limit of its operational capacity. When Bidfood applied for planning permission, it said that the project will secure continued employment of 196 staff who would be relocated from the Gateshead depot, with further future employment for approximately 50 staff over the next five years.

The development of the new depot follows the recent opening of Bidfood’s new 60,000 sq ft premises in Worcester, which is located on the Worcester Six Business Park and has provided around 200 new jobs.
