Bestway and Parfetts snap up Blakemore cash & carries

Parfetts is buying Blakemore’s 76,000 sq ft Middlesbrough cash & carry, retaining all 33 staff, while Bestway Wholesale is acquiring Blakemore’s 151,000 sq ft Cardiff depot and 76,000 sq ft Walsall branch.

Parfetts joint managing director Greg Suszczenia commented: “Retailers in Teesside will now join other Parfetts customers in benefiting from everyday low prices, a powerful three-weekly promotional programme, strong availability and expansive range.

“Couple that with the industry-leading Go Local retail fascia, and we’re certain the trusted Parfetts’ formula will prove to be a great success in this new branch.”

Blakemore’s Walsall branch is being acquired by Bestway.

Bestway Wholesale managing director Martin Race said: “We’re very excited to add these two well-located and sizeable depots to our estate. They will enhance our presence in these two key areas and expand our footprint and coverage in the UK.

“The landscape in convenience retail is changing rapidly and we are committed to ensuring that we have the infrastructure to meet – and exceed – our customers’ requirements.”

Both depots will remain open and will continue to be run by the Blakemore business until completion of the deal, which is due to take place in the coming weeks.

All 123 Blakemore staff involved in the twin deal are expected to transfer their employment on completion.

Blakemore, which announced in April that it would be withdrawing from cash & carry, has now sold or closed seven of the 12 C&C sites.

Those remaining are Wolverhampton (head office), Swansea, Grimsby, Birmingham and Bangor.
