Appleby Westward strengthens its executive team
Appleby Westward, the regional distribution company for over 300 SPAR stores in the south-west, has announced three new key appointments.
Alyn Saunders (right) has joined the business in the newly-created role of property acquisitions manager to assist Appleby Westward’s ambitious plans to expand its portfolio of company-owned stores.
Saunders had 25 years of acquisition experience with T&S Stores, One Stop and Ellis & Partners on the south coast, sourcing and acquiring mainly off-market stores and petrol stations for the Southern Co-op, Central Stores and, more recently, Wessex Retail.
Andy Scull (left) has been appointed head of customer proposition.
Responsible for establishing the best promotional package and reinvigorating Appleby Westward’s pricing strategy, he joins from the Co-op in Manchester where he headed up the commercial support team for over 11 years. Before that, he held a similar role at Somerfield where he was also a category buyer and then head of buying, managing many of the ambient product categories.
Joe Keohane (right) has been appointed finance and IT director for the Appleby Westward Group.
He has spent the last 30 years working in the UK in finance roles, mainly in the food industry. In 2003 Keohane and a colleague acquired Sharp’s, a tiny Cornish brewery, and built the Doom Bar cask beer brand into the UK’s fastest growing beer brand. After Sharp’s was acquired by Molson Coors, Keohane became finance director of Cormac Highways before it became the Corserv Group, where he was chief financial officer.
