Deakin (pictured) has more than three decades of expertise at AF Blakemore, built across different roles in supply chain and logistics, having joined the business in 1995 as a part-time chilled warehouse operative.

In recent years, he has led a major transformation of the group’s supply chain, improving availability, enhancing customer service, and driving investment in the Relex IT platform.

He also played a pivotal role in the design, build and operation of the Bedford depot, and has delivered significant growth through centralisation and backhaul initiatives.

Carol Welch, CEO of AF Blakemore & Son, said: “Marc embodies the company’s values of Achieving Our Goals Together and Striving for Excellence and his appointment is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when talent, commitment and our values come together.

“His deep understanding of our business and the SPAR network, combined with his proven leadership, will be instrumental in shaping the future of our supply chain and logistics operations.”

Deakin added: “I’m incredibly proud to take on this role. Starting as a part-time warehouse operative has given me a real appreciation of the opportunities our values create. I’m excited to continue strengthening our depot network and transport infrastructure, and to keep delivering outstanding service for our customers and partners.”

Deakin’s appointment highlights AF Blakemore’s long-standing commitment to developing exceptional talent from within the business.
