Wing Yip completes expansion of Croydon site
Wing Yip has completed its £16 million expansion of its Croydon store.
The revamp includes a new cold warehouse, entrance lobby, extended shopfloor and additional parking. The shopfloor and warehouse space has been doubled to 60,000 square feet. There are also wider aisles to give customers a more comfortable and safe shopping experience and a large array of solar and PV panels to enhance the store’s use of green energy.
The project on Purley Way, which began in 2017, has reached completion just as Wing Yip marks its 50th anniversary.
The store has been supplying authentic Oriental food and products to local restaurants and takeaways, as well as members of the community, since 1995. The store also attracts customers into the Croydon area from as far afield as the south coast.
Albert Yip, director of the Croydon store, says: “We are thrilled that the expansion of our new and improved Croydon store is now complete. We have been an integral part of the community here in Croydon for a quarter of a century and the store expansion means we will have more opportunities to expand our range and enhance shopper experience.
“As well as the local community, we have many customers who travel from outside of our catchment area to shop, and the expansion means we have become more of a destination for those customers.
“The store now also provides us with additional space to ensure our customers are shopping safely in the current climate. We have implemented specific health and safety measures to ensure the safety of our teams and customers. This has been applied across all four of the stores and includes managing the total number of customers in store at any time, adding line markings at checkout and around the store to aid safe distancing, and carrying out shopfloor replenishment at quieter times. The store also conducts a health screening process before staff begin work, regular deep cleans and provides sanitiser supplies for customers to clean trolleys.”
Yip concludes: “As the nation’s demand for more adventurous and authentic tasting foods increases, we strive to develop our offering in keeping with consumer demand. We’re really excited by the prospect that this opportunity brings.”
