Burnley-based Birchall Foodservice won the Red Rose Employer of the Year award at a ceremony held at Blackpool Winter Gardens.

In doing so, the wholesaler beat five other finalists from across Lancashire.

Sales director Louise Birchall said: “A happy and healthy workforce is a vital component of any business, and we strive to ensure that all measures possible are put in place to aid the welfare and career development of our team.

“We pride ourselves on our staff training policy and have many long-serving employees who have worked their way up through the business into management positions.”

As well as having a policy of promoting from within and providing ongoing training for staff, Birchall Foodservice also promotes health and well-being in the workplace, with a gym at the new headquarters.

This is the second recently-won award for the company – it also collected the Burnley Business of the Year title.

The Red Rose judging panel commented: “Birchall’s commitment to their staff was evident in the organic development of family values that steer the business. It is a company that enjoys developing its people both inside and outside work.”
