Sugro turnover rises by 9% to £950 million

Sugro UK increased group turnover by 9% to £950 million in the year to the end of December – the 14th successive year of improvement – reported managing director Philip Jenkins (pictured) at a reception held at the Churchill War Rooms in central London.

Soft drinks income rose by 13%, crisps & snacks by 10%, sugar confectionery 5% and chocolate confectionery 4%.

Describing the performance as “very impressive”, Jenkins also disclosed that the group’s retail club – relaunched last October – had increased in number by more than 300 over the year to in excess of 2,000.

He added that Sugro’s ‘Cash Bonanza’ had proved to be “an immediate success” and that in June and July this year the group will be running a ‘Bonus Ball’ initiative to tie in with the European football championship. A national prize draw will give entrants the chance to win a weekend in Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Lisbon or London.

Next month, in Barnstaple, Devon, the group will announce what progress has been made on its ‘Sugro Online’ technology initiative.
