30-store chain acquired by James Hall & Co

James Hall & Co, Spar wholesaler for the north of England, has acquired North East Convenience Stores (NECS), a 30-unit family-owned chain in the north-east.

NECS, founded in 2000, was formerly owned by brothers Naveen and Sanjeev Vadhera, who will remain on the executive management of the company, which becomes a James Hall subsidiary.

G&E Ormskirk-for-webNaveen Vadhera said: “We believe the synergies between the two companies will assist NECS as it continues to develop and grow over the next few years.

“With the support and experience of the James Hall team and strength of the Spar brand, NECS will be at the forefront of convenience retailing in the years to come.”

James Hall managing director Andrew Hall commented: “We are delighted to have acquired such a successful and fast moving business and we welcome Naveen, Sanjeev and the 400 employees of NECS into our group.”

James Hall & Co serves over 600 outlets in the north from its purpose-built distribution facility in Preston. In addition to the Spar distribution business, it operates 112 company-owned and operated stores.
