Nick Redford and Warren Hamer launch Arete procurement business

Former Caterforce managing director Nick Redford has combined with Warren Hamer, Sodexo’s global category director for protein, to form a new foodservice procurement support business.

Arete Procurement Solutions, which begins trading on 1 March, aims to ‘support foodservice businesses through the whole supply chain, with a complete multi-temperature solution’.

Redford and Hamer previously worked together at Makro, prior to that company’s takeover by Booker. Redford went on to head Caterforce for 10 years until leaving towards the end of last year. Hamer formerly worked for Iceland, TGI Fridays and Sodexo.

Commenting on the new project, Redford told Cash & Carry Management: “We will be assisting wholesalers, suppliers and end users, but at the moment we are starting with a completely blank piece of paper. There has already been lots of interest.

“At present we are both home-based to save costs, but we hope to have an office within 12 months.”

Redford added: “It’s an exciting time for the industry, but succeeding in foodservice can be down to fine margins. “Having an in-depth knowledge of procurement and supply chains will allow us to provide sound commercial solutions. Our team will be dedicated to ensuring our clients are equipped to deal with ever-changing business challenges.”

Hamer commented: “Nick and I have the knowledge, networks and know-how to ensure our clients are sourcing the best possible products at the most competitive prices.”
