Removal of BBC recipe website would be a ‘huge loss’

Chefs cooking-for-webAccording to the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, the threatened removal of the BBC’s recipe archives would be a huge loss to the caterers who rated the corporation’s online content as their second favourite source of inspiration in a recent poll.

Some 53% of the 400 chefs and catering managers interviewed by the wholesale trade body said they regularly looked to the online database for recipe advice, while 50% used it for food information and preparation tips.

BBC Good Food was the most used source of online support after wholesalers’ own websites, and it was visited more regularly than manufacturers’ or chefs’ sites.

The survey also found that providing an online calculator for ‘grossing up’ recipes from the consumer recipe database was among the top 20 services caterers wanted from C&C/wholesalers.
