John Searle to leave Landmark after 22 years of service

Landmark’s trading director John Searle (pictured) is resigning from the business with effect from the end of the year.

Searle has worked for Landmark for 22 years in two periods: he was originally trading controller from 1990-95, and he rejoined the group in 2002 as senior trading controller. He was promoted to his current post in 2004.

When Landmark’s former managing director Martin Williams announced he was leaving the group late last year, Searle was mooted as a possible replacement. As it was, John Mills, who has worked for a range of UK food & drink businesses, including Keith Spicer, Intercontinental Brands, Gaymer Cider Co, Constellation Wines Europe and Strathmore Mineral Water Co, was appointed MD in May.

Commenting on Searle’s departure, Mills said: “We are saddened to say farewell to John Searle. On behalf of central office, our members and the Board, I would like to thank him wholeheartedly for the continued loyalty, hard work and determination he has given to Landmark and wish him every success and happiness in the future.”

In the short term, Landmark will not be recruiting a new trading director; instead, senior trading controllers Jim Brown and Jon Burton will both report directly to Mills.

Latest figures show that Landmark is experiencing 6% growth.
