Dunns launches The Beer Town online shop for consumers

Dunns Food and Drinks has launched The Beer Town craft beer online shop for consumers.

Featuring an “award-winning range of world craft beer and cider”, The Beer Town at www.thebeertown.co.uk offers mixed beer cases, as well as cases of individual Scottish, German and Belgian beers, and ciders.

The Blantyre-based delivered wholesaler is offering home delivery for a minimum order of £60. The delivery area includes Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayrshire, Fife, Lanarkshire, Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth. Collection of orders with a minimum value of £30 is also available from the depot between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Julie Dunn, operations director of Dunns, explained how the new service came about: “We bought Dameck, a small craft beer specialist in 2014, as we recognised the trend towards premiumisation. This got us into a new customer base – bottle shops and craft-centric pubs and allowed us to offer our existing customer base a really enhanced, specialist offering. Overnight we brought in 1,200 world beers.”

Dunn explained that the company hadn’t previously needed a licence as all its trade was business to business. “When lockdown started we took advantage of TLT’s (solicitors in Glasgow) offer through the Scottish Wholesale Association to help any wholesaler who needed to gain an occasional licence to sell to consumers, and we put our product range online.

“Our wine company has had success with its Wineline Scotland site selling to private customers and we decided it was probably too much for beer lovers to go through our 6,500 products online through the Dunns site, so we thought, why not create a home delivery specialist craft beer site?

“We’re offering upwards of 100 beers on the site. There are of course the firmly established favourites but a big part of this market is seasonals so we intend to refresh our offering regularly.”
