Country Range Group turnover set for 14% rise

Approaching its year-end, Country Range Group, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, is set for a record-breaking 12 months. Turnover is on course to be 14% up on the £369 million achieved in 2016.

The encouraging statement comes despite the fact that the group is losing one of its oldest members, Chaffins Foodservice, of Redruth, Cornwall. As reported on this website, the £4.5 million business has been taken over by Landmark Wholesale member RD Johns Foodservice, of Newton Abbot, Devon.

CRG managing director Coral Rose said that, although factors such as ingredient price inflation, the value of the pound and Brexit uncertainty have created challenging conditions across many sectors, investment by group members has helped provide the platform for growth.

“In the last 18 months our members have added 175,000 sq ft of warehouse space, the majority of which has been to increase freezer capacity.”

Rose added that an extra 74 vehicles have been commissioned and 213 new jobs have been created over the past 18 months.

“All this will make us stronger in the next 25 years and beyond.”
