Country Range Group seeks top student chefs
The search is on to find the UK’s top young culinary trio after the launch of Country Range Group’s Student Chef Challenge 2016/17, run in collaboration with the Craft Guild of Chefs.
Now in its 23rd year, the competition is aimed at attracting hospitality and catering college students who are given a chance to showcase their culinary prowess and creativity.
This year’s event requires teams of three to create and prepare a three-course, three-cover menu around the theme ‘Healthy Gourmet Fine Dining’.
The menu must include: a vegetarian starter, containing at least one super grain, such as amaranth, chia seeds, freekeh or quinoa; main course featuring meat or fish and focused on ‘imaginative healthy cooking techniques’; and a dessert that should contain fruit, but not too much butter and cream. Each element must cost a maximum of £8 per cover.
Entries must be received by 28 November, after which date the chosen menus will be judged and the winning teams will be selected to compete in regional heats at the end of January 2017. The final will take place on 15 March at ScotHot – Scotland’s biggest food, drink and hospitality show.
The winning team will have the opportunity to cater for over 1,000 guests at the Craft Guild of Chefs Annual Awards 2017.
