Brakes Group swells Sysco’s sales and profits

Leading US foodservice business Houston-based Sysco Corporation increased gross profit by 19.2% to $2.6 billion in the 13 weeks to the end of 2016. Sales rose by 10.7% to $13.5 billion.

However, when the contribution from Brakes Group (acquired for £2.3 billon last year) is excluded, the profit figure increased by 2.9% to $2.2 billion on sales down by 0.2% to $12.1 billion.

The latest quarterly returns meant that half-year gross profit from the company’s US operations were $3.7 billion (up 4%) on sales of $18.6 billion (plus 0.1%) while sales for the international division were $5.3 billion ($2.7 billion).

A Sysco Group spokesman said the improved trading figures were “primarily attributable to the Brakes Group acquisition”.
