Birds Eye launches Green Cuisine Battered Fishless Fillets into foodservice

Birds Eye has announced that its plant-based Green Cuisine Battered Fishless Fillets will be available to foodservice customers from October.

Inspired by Birds Eye’s battered fish fillet, the product is made with rice protein for a flaky texture. It is a source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids and is coated in a light and crispy batter.

The launch follows on from the success of the brand’s Fishless Fingers, which feature the same rice protein filling but with Birds Eye’s ‘signature’ golden crumb coating.

Victoria Westwood, marketing lead UK at Green Cuisine, says: “Our Battered Fishless Fillets tap into the consumer demand for familiar products that are flavoursome, healthy and convenient but which can also help them reduce their meat intake.”

Gerard Purnell, business development controller for foodservice, Birds Eye, adds: “Our mission is to make the benefits of plant-based food accessible to all, as well as capitalising on the huge opportunity for the fishless category within the growing foodservice sector. The Green Cuisine Fishless Fingers have been very popular in the out-of-home market, so we’re hoping to replicate the success with the new fillets.”
