Ben Shaws relaunched with a fresh new look by Refresco

Refresco has announced that Ben Shaws is being relaunched in July with a fresh new look.

The new bright graphic-led design with tongue-in-cheek humour has taken its inspiration from the brand’s Yorkshire roots and its flavours.

Ben Shaw’s dates back to 1871 and was originally delivered around Huddersfield by Ben with his trusty Shire horses, Bonny, Blossom, Cherry and Dick. From small beginnings, the brand developed and put the first canning line into the UK in the ’50s. Today, the brand is still packed in Yorkshire.

Retro-style line drawings relevant to each drink and captions to match give each of the five classic flavours – Cream Soda, Dandelion & Burdock, Bitter Shandy, Cloudy Lemonade and Root Beer – its own personality and character.

The Bitter Shandy has a pit bull terrier with a flower in its mouth with the caption ‘softer than it looks’; the Cloudy Lemonade has a drawing of a lemon umbrella with the caption ‘it’s all so unclear’; the Dandelion & Burdock has an illustration of a dandelion ‘clock’ and the words ‘totally timeless’, the Cream Soda has an ice cream cone with ‘oh we do like to be beside the seaside’; and the Root Beer has a vintage car with the words ‘it’s a cool classic’ beside it.

A new look website and regional sampling will support the relaunch.

The drinks are all below the soft drinks levy and are available in 330ml recyclable cans, with Cloudy Lemonade, Bitter Shandy and Dandelion & Burdock also available in 500ml and two-litre formats.
