CJ Lang life president Joan Scott-Adie dies after long illness

Joan Scott-Adie, life president of CJ Lang & Son, has died after a long illness.

Scott-Adie (pictured) was the granddaughter of Charles Lang senior, who founded the business in Dundee in 1919, and the daughter of Stella and Charles Lang.

“She dedicated her life to carrying forward their vision,” said a CJ Lang spokesperson.

“As long-serving chairwoman and majority shareholder, she oversaw a period of significant growth, helping to build CJ Lang & Son into Scotland’s leading independent food wholesaler and retailer and the SPAR wholesale partner for the whole of Scotland. Throughout that journey, Joan was supported by her husband John, who predeceased her, and who was also closely involved in the business.”

Scott-Adie had four daughters – Fiona, Serena, Caroline and Tanya – all of whom are also shareholders and serve as non-executive directors and continue the family’s proud involvement in the business.

“She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her,” concluded the spokesperson.
