Sunderland-based Young’s Foodservice joins Sterling Supergroup

Young’s Foodservice, located in Sunderland, has joined Sterling Supergroup.

Young’s Foodservice is a family business dating back to the 1940s. In 1975, the father of the current managing director Richard Young set up the business, producing cooked meats and black pudding.

The company grew steadily, but its major expansion came in 2019 when it moved to new premises, added frozen and ambient ranges, opened a specialist butchery, and developed a full range of sandwich fillers and marinades.

Over the last seven years Young’s Foodservice has grown rapidly, earning a place in the North East’s Fastest 50 in 2024.

Today, it supplies a wide variety of customers from hotels and restaurants to a Premier League football team. The wholesaler covers an area stretching from North Yorkshire to the Scottish Borders with a fleet of 11 refrigerated vehicles.

Richard Young, managing director of Young’s Foodservice, said: “Joining Sterling Supergroup marks an exciting step forward for us, enabling improved sourcing, stronger partnerships, and enhanced value for our customers.”

Daniel Larkin, chief commercial officer of Sterling Supergroup, said: “Young’s Foodservice strengthens Sterling’s network by extending our coverage into a key region not currently served. Their long-standing family heritage and impressive growth make them an excellent addition to the group, and we’re excited about the opportunities this partnership will create.”
