SPAR Scotland has unveiled a new Marie Curie-themed lorry livery designed by a primary school pupil from East Ayrshire, following a nationwide competition held earlier this year.
The winning artwork was created by Finlay, age 12, from Bellsbank Primary School in East Ayrshire. SPAR Scotland also donated £1,000 to Bellsbank Primary as a thank you for the high calibre of entries submitted.
Last month, representatives from Marie Curie visited CJ Lang & Son’s depot in Dundee for the official unveiling of the newly wrapped lorry and to receive a £2,500 donation – the total raised at SPAR Scotland’s 2025 Tradeshow in Aviemore.
The lorry featuring Finlay’s design will now travel the length and breadth of Scotland, helping raise awareness for Marie Curie.
Paula Middleton, head of marketing at SPAR Scotland, said: “We are incredibly proud to support the vital work of Marie Curie nurses, who provide comfort, care and dignity to people at the end of life and to families during what can be the most difficult time of the year. For many, Christmas is especially hard, and Marie Curie nurses ease that burden so families can focus on spending precious moments together.
“We were thrilled with the response to our design competition and delighted to see Finlay’s creativity brought to life on one of our vehicles.”
SPAR Scotland has announced a record year of charitable giving, donating £200,000 in 2025 to support good causes across the country. The total surpasses the £180,000 donated in 2024.
SPAR Scotland has continued its support for Marie Curie, SPAR’s national charity partner, while also donating to hundreds of local causes across the country – from primary schools, care homes and football clubs to defibrillator units, foodbanks, community councils, theatre groups, pantomimes, and hospitals.
Colin McLean, CEO of SPAR Scotland, said: “We have donated a significant amount to groups large and small across Scotland, where our customers really are our neighbours. Our colleagues work and very often live in the local communities where our stores are based, so we really do feel we are part of the local fabric. Supporting local people and causes is something we take great pride in, and it is part of what makes SPAR Scotland such a special brand.”
Funds are raised through a combination of in-store collections and local fundraising events, all backed by the enthusiasm and generosity of SPAR Scotland’s colleagues, retailers and customers.
