Nisa MADL charity to donate £250,000 to ‘stronger communities’ projects

Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity has launched its largest ever round of Heart of the Community Awards, with £250,000 available for ‘stronger communities’ initiatives run by local charities and not-for-profit causes.

Applications are welcome from groups addressing a wide variety of challenges but with an emphasis on youth groups which support cost-of-living pressures, social mobility, mental health and wellbeing, inequalities of ageing, breaking down barriers, creating fairer futures, levelling up communities and those implementing innovative community solutions.

Donations of up to £5,000 will be awarded to deserving causes, and the deadline for applications is 17 September. Applications for the Heart of the Community awards can be made directly through local Nisa retailers. Interested causes should visit their nearest Nisa store for details and to begin the application process.

All charities and not-for-profit initiatives are encouraged to apply; however, a preference will be given to young people as two-thirds of this age group feel disadvantaged due to recent economic pressures, points out Nisa. Reports and photos will be requested throughout the projects, with payments split into two.

“We are incredibly proud to launch this groundbreaking round of the Heart of the Community awards,” said Kate Carroll, head of charity at Nisa.

“Since 2020, the Heart of the Community initiative has provided over £1 million in donations, and we’re excited to continue supporting the incredible work happening at the grassroots level.”
