Foodservice wholesaler Nila, of Southall, Middlesex, has ceased trading.
Established 24 years ago, the company, headed by Mohammad Nilforoushan, had a turnover of £17 million. After four years of profitability, it made a pre-tax loss of £841,000 in the 12 months to November 2016 – the latest period for which financial results have been published.
Under administrator Duff & Phelps, attempts have been made to sell the freehold site. Several offers from other C&C/wholesalers are currently under consideration.
“Nothing has been finalised at this stage,” said a Nila spokeswoman, one of four ex-company employees helping the administrators.
Some 29 staff have been made redundant – largely those in the procurement, distribution and customer relations departments. The remaining 32, all of whom were with Nila for less than a year, had their employment terminated.
Nila, which had been a member of Confex for three years, handled chilled, frozen and ambient foods, including halal-approved products, mainly in the M25 corridor. More recently it extended distribution over the south-east.
Customers included cafés, coffee shops, schools and hospitals.
