Further expansion for Birchall Foodservice

Birchall Foodservice has added a 6,000 sq ft extension to the 7,500 sq ft cold store at its main site in Burnley, spending £260,500 to create space for an extra 500 pallets.

The Country Range Group member moved to the £3 million, 64,000 sq ft purpose-built depot three years ago.

Earlier this year an adjacent two-acre site was acquired to cope with the rapidly growing business.

Managing director Justin Birchall (pictured) said: “Growth has far exceeded our original predictions and we have had to increase storage accordingly.

“Our chill and freezer storage space now totals 17,340 sq ft – 3,000 sq ft larger than our previous warehouse in total.”

Birchall Foodservice, which also operates from depots in Durham, Sheffield and Stoke, has a payroll of 156, compared with just over 100 almost three years ago.
