One thousand children compete at SPAR Lancashire School Games Finale
One thousand schoolchildren competed in the SPAR Lancashire School Games Finale earlier this month.
The Games, which have been sponsored by SPAR for 15 years through SPAR UK’s primary North of England wholesaler James Hall & Co, returned to Blackpool’s Stanley Park for the first time since the pandemic.
In 2022, the Games engaged 10,000 children in sport and activities across Lancashire through 20 feature events and competitions, enabling children to have fun, develop skills, and achieve personal bests.
The 2022 Games were the first to have a baton relay around Lancashire’s 14 districts. Methods for transporting the baton around the Red Rose County included walking, running, by bike, on scooters, on horseback, and by boat with the support of the RNLI.
A wide range of sports took place at the finale. These included highly competitive football and netball tournaments and track and field events. There were also various activities, from dodgeball to tag rugby, cricket to golf, and orienteering to samba drumming.
Alongside the physical activities, competition winners were announced for the Lancashire School Games baton design and opening decree competitions, and a party in the park was held to finish the day.
In other news of community support, SPAR has donated bibs and footballs to Lancaster University’s Social Football Society.
The Society’s committee members approached SPAR for help after a seeing a boom in students attending practice after the pandemic. Lancaster University’s SPAR store is owned and serviced by James Hall & Co.
Tom Murphy, marketing manager at James Hall & Co, said: “Our Lancaster University store is a brilliant SPAR and we know how valued it is by students on campus which is why we were so keen to give something back to the Social Football Society.
“Two of SPAR’s brand pillars are Nurturing Our Neighbourhoods and Passionate About Local, and through this contribution to the Social Football Society, this has helped us achieve our goal in the Lancaster University community.”
