Sugro appoints Forrest as preferred central distribution partner

Sugro UK has announced that Forrest Fresh Foods has been appointed as its preferred central distribution partner for the group’s members.

Neil Turton, managing director of Sugro, told Cash & Carry Management: “Sugro has had two central distribution partners for a long time – Turner & Wright (a Kitwave member) and Nisa, which our members generally use for products like tobacco, spirits or core grocery.

“We haven’t stood down either of these providers but we would much prefer Forrest to handle central distribution for us because it keeps everything within the Sugro terms circle and in the Sugro group.”

He added: “Suppliers have been increasing minimum drops, and some suppliers have been really struggling with supplying smaller wholesalers, so some of our smaller Sugro members definitely benefit from central distribution.”

Turton concluded: “We welcome the agreement with Forrest. We have been working on it for a long time – since Mark Craven (of Forrest) proposed it in 2018. We actually agreed a contract with Forrest over a year ago but then Covid hit. We will now be promoting this service to our members.”
